Facilities

The Guelcher laboratory has a polymer synthesis and characterization facility (1000 sq ft) in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Vanderbilt University. Synthesis facilities include two 6-ft and one 5-ft chemical fume hoods, glass reactors ranging in size from 50 – 500 ml, water baths, stirrers, heating plates, a rotary evaporator, a titrator, refrigerator/freezer, vacuum ovens, vacuum pumps, and balances.

The Guelcher laboratory also has access to a 400-sq ft cell culture laboratory in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Vanderbilt University. Cell culture facilities include two laminar flow hoods, incubators, refrigerators, and -80 C and -20 C freezers.

We also have access to the orthopedics laboratories, including a 400-sq ft biomechanics laboratory for testing materials under various modes of deformation as well as two laboratories for histological processing of biomaterials using plastic and paraffin embedding techniques. Both ground sections and thin films can be prepared.
